Biography.
Anton Brezinka, born in 1998, is a German-Austrian conductor. He comes from a family of musicians and is a trained pianist and violist. As a teenager, he gained extensive experience as an orchestral musician. He studied orchestral conducting and opera coaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Brezinka’s work focuses primarily on the field of musical theater. He has worked at venues including the Teatr Wielki in Łódź, the Oper Burg Gars, the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, the Neue Oper Wien, and the Wheeler Opera House (USA). Brezinka has conducted orchestras from Austria, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and the USA. He has also participated in masterclasses with Marin Alsop, Helmut Deutsch, and Robert Spano. In the summer of 2024, he was part of the Aspen Conducting Academy at the renowned Aspen Music Festival. Brezinka is an experienced vocal coach and was invited to join the Vienna State Opera’s Young Artists Program as a volunteer répétiteur starting in the 2021 season. He is also a prize winner of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and was a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association Vienna in 2022.
Since the 2023/2024 season, he has been engaged as a répétiteur with conducting duties at the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach. Audience interaction is a particular focus for Brezinka. Since the 2024/2025 season, he has been giving musical introductory talks from the piano before selected performances, which have proven very popular.
Brezinka recently made his conducting debut at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf with the notabu.ensemble für neue musik, performing the music for the silent film ”The Adventures of Prince Achmed”. He had previously conducted the same work with the SWR Symphony Orchestra.
